Born in Paris, Marcel Gautherot settled in Brazil in 1940. His photographs of the construction of the capital city Brasilia in the late 1950s have become icons of modern architectural representation.

This book now comprehensively traces Gautherot's artistic journey for the first time: from travel and landscape impressions, ethnological explorations of Brazilian customs, everyday snapshots, to his engagement with modernist architectural forms. Approximately 240 carefully reproduced photographs from all phases of his career, accompanied by essays by international experts, provide a comprehensive insight into this extraordinary body of work.
